What is a Bitesize audit?
Firehead Bitesize attacks your content issues quickly and effectively with a four-step content audit – essentially a detailed list of everything that’s already on a website or intranet.
Content audits can help you:
- see the size and scope of what you have, and what you need to do with it (people are often surprised by the results!)
- break down the tasks of refreshing your website into achievable and affordable chunks
- prepare a good working document that all your web team can understand
start to look after your site content, rather than leaving it in the hands of others - get moving on your redevelopment project, instead of leaving it in your in-tray

List – content inventory
Your content inventory is a spreadsheet that lists every item on your website. Content may include text, images, video, audio, downloads, data and forms.
Count – quantitative audit
In your quantitative audit we’ll pick 10–12 pages from your inventory for a closer look. You can choose these pages, or we’ll suggest pages that we think need special attention.
We add data to your spreadsheet to answer such questions as:
- How many pages are there?
- How many words are there?
- How do the words score for readability?
- How many times do keywords appear?
- How many links are there?
Analyse – in-depth edit
For 1–2 pages of your content inventory we’ll analyse your words in depth, and make sure they answer the questions:
What are we trying to say/do?
- Does the page serve its purpose?
- Are headings and sub-headings appropriate?
- Is the content accurate?
- To what extent is the content valuable to the user?
- To what extent does the content add value to your business?
How do we say it? – alignment
- Does this page align with our goals for it?
- Does the page align with our brand?
- Is tone and voice consistent within the piece?
- Does it align with pages around it?
How do we say it? – achievement
- Are grammar, punctuation and spelling correct?
- Does the content have a logical structure?
- Are the benefits clear?
- Is it in plain English, accessible and user-friendly?
- Does the reader know what to do and where to go next?
- So what? Do they care about what’s there?
We will use our analysis to write sample pages of new content that proves what we do works.
Your next steps – getting ready for content strategy
When we deliver your content audit, we’ll show you how to take forward what we’ve started and start developing your content strategy. Our detailed report will be your blueprint for pages that really perform. We’ll help you break down the tasks into affordable and achievable chunks.
When you have a good content strategy in place, everyone in your team knows:
- Which pages are their responsibility – assign
- Which content they are tackling first, and when the deadlines are – prioritise
- How long it’s going to take, and how much it’s going to cost – cost
