EuroIA Fifth Summit: 25-26 September in Copenhagen
Sorry Folks, I didn’t know this was still in the Drafts folder – I thought I’d published it weeks ago. I know things are getting a bit close now, but just in case…
EuroIA, the European Information Archiecture Institute, has announceed their fifth EuroIA Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark (just across the bridge from me!). This year’s theme is “Beyond Structure”. It will explore the fact that websites have moved to a new level, where any random page can be accessed from Google, Bing, Yahoo! or any search engine.
Pages themselves may consist of information from many sources. And even the concept of a “page” is changing thanks to new backend technologies. In other words, we’ve moved beyond the traditional sitemap and into a new and exciting era of web development to explore.
The keynote speaker is Scott Thomas from AKA SimpleScott. They also have a host of interesting speakers, panel discussions, workshops as well as great networking with some of the luminaries in the field of Information Architecture lined up.
“What is Information Architecture?” you ask? You’re not alone – it’s another new and evolving field. Like Content Strategy, people have been trying to come up with a precise definition for years. The Information Architecture Institute defines Information Architecture as:
- The structural design of shared information environments.
- The art and science of organizing and labeling web sites, intranets, online communities and software to support usability and findability.
- An emerging community of practice focused on bringing principles of design and architecture to the digital landscape.
Are these definitions definitive? Nope. You might come up with your own at the summit!
