The E-Snub: One Applicant’s Revenge

Posted on January 31, 2010 by: Firehead

This is too good to be missed! Check out how one modern applicant deals with the “E-Snub” on The New York Times Region column. The “E-Snub” being the most modern method for HR departments to avoid followu communication after the interview. Neal Hirshfeld goes through the entire application process, only to be left hanging with no reply after all of his trouble – but comes up with an ingenious way of getting a response from them anyway.

This is a real pet peeve with me. As a person who believes firmly in the basics of good manners, I am often appalled by the behaviour I see in the hiring process. By both company and candidate. You would think this would be an occasion for both parties to put their best side forward, but sadly, this is often not the case. I guess too much depends on it for some people to behave well. But that’s another tangent. When I see abuse of position, frustrated lashing out, or just plain bad manners, it only means one thing to me: “Next, please!”

At Firehead, you will always receive a response to your application, even if it is to say we’re still trying to get the info for you. We’ll keep you in the loop. We’ll give you feedback when we get it, and we will keep calling on your behalf.

We expect candidates to come prepared for the application process, so you can expect us to be prepared to do our job when we agree to respresent you. It’s old fashioned, but we believe it still works, even in this age of technology.
